Four new emerging directors envision sustainable future beyond 2050
Emerging directors shine in Pause Originals’ latest premiere, exploring 2050’s sustainable world. UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and Kate Raworth’s Doughnut Economics inspire imaginative narratives.
In the creative realm, a groundbreaking event is on the horizon. Pause Originals, the avant-garde digital sister platform, is set to captivate the creative industry with the world premiere of an exceptional collection of short films. Scheduled for October 6th, 2023, these films are poised to redefine cinematic storytelling and ignite discussions on our collective vision for 2050.
This premiere is not merely an assembly of films; it’s a testament to the artistic response to the pressing global shift towards a sustainable future. Drawing inspiration from the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and the groundbreaking theories of economist and author Kate Raworth, these films seamlessly blend visionary storytelling with cutting-edge visuals. The outcome? A tapestry of narratives that traverse the realms of post-apocalyptic landscapes to awe-inspiring terraforming, all underpinned by the optimistic embrace of a climate-neutral, zero-emissions world post-2050.
Imagine a world where robots, reminiscent of humanity’s finest traits, seek purpose amidst the ruins of civilization. Welcome to “Billy” by the visionary director ZHEESHEE (0:57), a post-humanity narrative that challenges our perceptions of empathy and emotion.
Being able to submit my work to Pause Originals, a place I had admired since my college days, was a great honour for me. The process of creating that piece, collaborating with my fellow colleagues, and putting in the effort together was enjoyable, and we shared both challenging and happy moments.

“The Forester” by Mixcode Studio (2:44) ventures into a world where forests and drones intertwine, unveiling the profound significance of drone reforestation. Ancient relics pave the way to enigmatic, green-filled anomalies, offering profound reflections on our actions today and their transformative potential for a greener tomorrow.
“MARSISMS” by the talented Haram Jung (2:18) transports you to Mars, where hidden cities await discovery amidst treacherous storms. Blending mythology with future expectations, this cinematic masterpiece is a testament to human curiosity and exploration.
Fast forward to 2050, where Low-Earth orbiting solar stations power a world of endless possibilities. “Solar Pulse” by Leon Liang (2:14) immerses you in a future where clean energy takes center stage, complete with solar car races, pulsating techno beats, and thrilling stunts. It’s a nostalgic homage to the golden age of sci-fi, where technology unlocks boundless potential.
But Pause Originals’ ambition transcends the silver screen. With the launch of “The Visions of Tomorrow,” a captivating website, the platform curates over a decade’s worth of visionary creations. It’s a mesmerizing journey through humanity’s evolution, propelled by technology and fueled by boundless imagination.
For those yearning to witness these visionary tales manifest in the physical realm, Bunjil Place in Narre Warren will host an artistic exhibition from October to December 2023. Here, these cinematic wonders will come to life, inviting contemplation on the profound implications of our existential trajectory.
But the enchantment doesn’t end there. Los Angeles’ WOW Media billboards in Inglewood will serve as a larger-than-life canvas, showcasing these innovative narratives to a global audience. It’s an opportunity for these films to spark conversations about our shared future, anchored by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
George Hedon, the Founder & Head of Content at Pause Originals, expresses his enthusiasm, stating, “These short films are more than visual delights; they are a conduit to the visionary world envisioned by our gifted directors. We are fostering a platform for these filmmakers to articulate their unique perspectives on critical and imaginative themes, engaging audiences in a dialogue about our future guided by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).”
The astute interplay of realistic and speculative storytelling in these films offers a compelling exploration of our existential journey, provoking contemplation on its profound implications.
